Lysis in distilled water, normal shape in 0.9% NaCl and swelling in 6% NaCl

Prof Smith: Lysis will happen to the red blood cell in distilled water and in 0.9% the red blood cell will keep its normal cell shape. However, in 6% NaCl solution the red blood cells will not swell. What will happen to them actually?

 

You: I know, it will shrivel! This is because the water molecules will move out of the cell and not inside the cell!
