In the meantime, advise about contraception as well:All women diagnosed with diabetes, either overt DM or GDM, should be advised about the need for a future pregnancy to be planned. Use of contraceptive medication is recommended in order to avoid unplanned pregnancy during a time-period when woman's metabolic profil is not satisfactory [consider body mass index (BMI), Glu control]. Combined oral contraceptive use by women with T1DM does not affect their glycemic control or increase their risk of end-organ injury. Furthermore, combined oral contraceptive use by women with history of GDM, does not increase the risk of later developing T2DM. Therefore: R 6.3 The choice of a contraceptive method for a woman with overt diabetes or a history of GDM should not be influenced by virtue of having a history of GDM or overt diabetes. (1+++) |
